There are many different ways for you to interface with the ever-increasing blog world. Are you prepared to maximize your results? It doesn't matter if you're beginning with basic book/product reviews, client Q&A sessions with blog hosts, or even submitting a guest post for bloggers to see the best results from the time spent on a blog tour follow these steps!
We call this …. CYBERSCHMOOZING
1 ) Make Online Friends– Get out there on the Internet and make friends. Be generous. Post when you can contribute something, not just when you need something. If you like someone’s book, email that person one to one and tell them so. Post comments to the blogs hosting your tour. Don’t just talk about yourself and your book or manuscript or blog. Be thoughtful, informative, and entertaining. These skills will come in handy throughout your journey, and your comments will convey that you’re someone fun to work with and promote.
2 ) SHARE– Be ready to share the links from your blog tour. Identify friends and family that you can email or share with on Facebook the reviews from the blog stops. Identify 2-3 individuals per blog stop to share the link with their network of friends. DO NOT ask your friends to share all the posts. This would come across as a sales pitch, instead of sharing information. Have them mention your connection.. ie, a good friend, sister, daughter, aunt, neighbor, co-worker, etc.
3 ) Publicize The Tour– Tweet, post on Facebook, blog about it… you’ll find that others will start sharing the links as well. When you share on Facebook, write something unique about the article. Show your excitement and appreciation. Become Facebook friends with the blog host.
4 ) Leave your Mark– Blog hosts love receiving comments on their posts. Show your appreciation by leaving a thank-you at the end of their article. You can also return the favor by blogging about them on your sites and Facebook pages. Blog Tours are a great way to spread out to a larger audience and self-promotion is the way of the industry now. After your tour is over create an article on your website or blog and share your experience. Make sure to include all the events from the Blog Tour on that page, with active links to the host sites or blogs – again thanking them for their generosity in hosting you.
5 ) Track Logistics– Keep careful track of the logistics of your tour. A lot of the work, besides contacting hosts and writing the material, is record keeping. Create a master file that includes the date of every virtual gig, the host blog or website name, what kind of event it was (ie: guest blog, interview, profile, podcast, live chat, Q&A), the url so you can share a link on your website, watch your Amazon rankings, website traffic, and a column to mark once their review is placed on Amazon, B&N, or Goodreads. This follow-up is data you can use when scheduling your next tour!
